It’s tempting to look at the vast issue of world poverty and believe you are powerless to make a difference. But you can be of great significance if you focus on something smaller, something intimate.
A child.
By focusing on the lives and opportunities of children you stand a real chance of changing the world. TEAR Fund New Zealand believes there is no better way to help the poor than providing a future and hope for children. The child sponsorship programme is a great way to make a difference.
Microenterprise is the provision of small, fair credit loans to the poor to establish small businesses. As these loans are repaid, they are loaned again, creating a sustainable cycle of development.
We can change the world, one family at a time.
Microenterprise provides a hand up, not a hand out, to the poor in developing countries who want to establish businesses and become self sufficient. Loans average around $100 to $200, and when repaid the money is recycled again and again to help others start their own enterprises.
Microenterprise is a proven way out of poverty. The lives of millions of the world’s poor have been transformed by people like you.
TEAR Fund’s holistic approach to sustainable community development addresses areas of major social concern amongst the poor in developing countries.
TEAR Fund New Zealand helps deficient communities in the developing world become self-reliant, secure and healthy. TEAR Fund finances and provides technical support for clean water, food security, healthcare, forestry, fishing and agricultural projects. TEAR Fund New Zealand works with communities to strengthen indigenous leadership and provide access to education and vocational training. TEAR Fund challenges injustices and exploitation, plus facilitates reconciliation in communities divided by ethnicity and religion.
Disasters usually occur unexpectedly and require an immediate response.
Whenever disaster strikes, TEAR Fund New Zealand is ready to assist. This is because of our global network of partners and existing infrastructures, including indigenous workers on the ground. With your regular support and giving we are equipped to respond to cries for help. In a humanitarian crisis such as an earthquake, cyclone or war, TEAR Fund works to provide emergency relief and practical rehabilitation support.
Change your world. You can make a real difference by becoming a TEAR Fund Changemaker.
Changemaker contributions start from as little as $10 a month and are allocated across our community development projects wherever it is needed most.
Your contribution is put to use in the field by local workers working on behalf of our partner agencies. They work directly with the poorest people, identifying and addressing the cause of suffering, not just the symptoms. This significantly reduces overhead costs and ensures programmes are targeted to specific local needs. We take a holistic approach and help the poor to find solutions to their own problems.

A valuable part of TEAR Fund’s work is the input of volunteers. If you are passionate about serving the poor and have time available, contact TEAR Fund to discuss how you can be involved in this dynamic ministry.
All that is really required is a willing heart.
