Press Release: Fairtrade Bananas Hit Aotearoa Stores
TEAR Fund congratulates the team at All Good for the successful import of the first shipment of Fairtrade bananas into Aotearoa (NZ)! We know it has been a long journey full of hard work. We are completely behind this effort and wish it much success!
Watch out for New Zealand’s First Fairtrade Bananas!
It’s really happening, thanks to the many Kiwis who helped campaign and supported the move to finally get this country’s first shipment of All Good Fairtrade bananas.
Victory!
All Good Fairtrade bananas are exactly that, grown in El Guabo in Ecuador from farmers who will now benefit from a fair price, better working conditions and their children will be provided with food, clothing, an education and a healthier life. And the goodness doesn’t stop there, All Good Fairtrade bananas also taste great, are grown with organic fertilisers, plenty of care and no nasty chemicals. They’re truly New Zealand’s only straight bananas.
Look out for All Good Fairtrade bananas in your supermarkets and stores in Auckland. They are there now.
If your local doesn’t have them, don’t be shy, just ask them to stock up on the good stuff. If Kiwis keep the
demand going pretty soon we’ll be able supply the whole country, so make your banana an All Good one.
Visit www.allgoodbananas.co.nz for further information and a full list of participating stores. The main suppliers for the first shipment are:

Yay! Very excited about this!
I used to assume that NZ bananas came from places like Samoa. That would probably mean that the abuses that occur in the Carribean and South America weren’t a problem here. But no. Dole bananas don’t say where theirs come from; Bonita come from Ecuador; Del Monte come from the Carribean and Costa Rica etc..
We haven’t imported bananas from Samoa for some decades due to concern about some fruit fly.
So, these bananas are coming from no further away than any others, but are produced by people who’ve been treated right. Yay!
And the NZ Herald reports that the “All Good” people are currently trying to import finger bananas from Samoa, too, although they’re having trouble meeting MAF standards:

Off to buy some bananas soon…haven’t felt good about buying them for ages!
HAHA! It certainly is a welcome product and we’re glad to see you’re excited about it, Heather!
What fantastic news! I will definitely be asking my local Pak N Save to stock these- it worked with Freedom Farms bacon, so I’m sure it will get stocked soon enough!
