Help Haiti
Forget the arguments and cynicism about aid. The need in Haiti is massive and urgent. Haiti is one of the poorest nations in the world. Its infrastructure is completely inadequate to cope with the effect of a 7.0 magnitude quake so close to its capital. Rapid, effective foreign aid is vital.
It’s hard to get an accurate picture of what’s happening. Communications are disrupted, reports sketchy and varying considerably but it’s likely the death toll could pass 100,000 with many thousands more people trapped and injured. The main hospital has been destroyed. A number of schools have collapsed and a horrendous number of homes are now rubble.
TEAR Fund NZ is running an emergency appeal to raise money for the survivors. Funds raised will be channeled through our partner Compassion, which has a big presence in Haiti and also the Integral Alliance which will soon have disaster relief and medical teams on the ground.
To help the people of Haiti please donate via TEAR Fund by phoning 0800 800 777 or donating on our website www.tearfund.org.nz.
