While in India, I had the opportunity to talk to a few young people living in poverty who have New Zealand sponsors.
I asked one young guy (11 years old) what he would wish for if he could have one wish and know without a doubt that it would come true. The circumstances that young man lives in could only be described as poverty. This is where he lives:
This young man was doing well as part of one of TEAR Fund/Compassion’s sponsorship projects.
His answer took me by surprise. In a future post I will tell you his answer. Have a guess what he said and tell us what you would wish for if you could have one wish and know without a doubt that it would come true. Just leave a comment with your answers.

At a guess I’d say the boy wished to be able to somehow change his community for the better. If it were me living there I think I would wish to be ‘beamed up”. We are so spoilt living in New Zealand and it is images like this one (and the memory of the smell that goes with it) that keeps one mindful of how fortunate we are and how much we take for granted.
For myself, my wish would be to get a job!
For the child, I think his wish would be that his family are well and healthy, that all his community will thrive, and be able to change their circumstances for the better.
Everyone in New Zealand is absolutely better off than everyone living in poverty in the rest of the world.
But there are people in New Zealand, who suffer relative poverty.
