NZ Aid Changes
For those interested, here is a link to the speech Murray McCully gave outlining the wider changes to NZ Aid that some of us have been waiting for:
Murray McCully: New Priorities for New Zealand Aid.
The major announcements have been visible for some time – NZ Aid will be brought back completely into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and it’s focus will move from poverty alleviation to economic development.
In terms of measuring the success of NZ Aid under this change, the Minister states this:
It will seek to use objective measures like trade and tourism statistics as the indicators of success or failure over time.

“Currently that mandate focuses on the rather nebulous concept of poverty alleviation.”
I wonder if it is nebulous to childen in Africa, who are suffering because of the effects of an unjust and unfair world trading system.
Is the goverment trying to reinvent the structual adjustment programmes of the 60′s and 80′s? They didnt work then.
