Don’t Corrupt Aid! Please Mr McCully, Leave NZ Aid Alone
A new website kicked off yesterday afternoon as part of a public campaign that we are involved in www.dontcorruptaid.org.nz
If you have been following this blog you will now be aware of the plans the Foreign Minister has to fold NZ Aid back into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The majority of development experts agree that this is a bad idea. We want to send him a message that the New Zealand public wants NZ Aid left well alone.
To take action just visit www.dontcorruptaid.org.nz To share your thoughts publicly, visit www.dontcorruptaid.blogspot.com If you want to demonstrate your support, save the image below and use it as your Facebook profile image, Twitter image, or any place you use images to show yourself to the world. Tell the government to leave NZ Aid alone.

Just received a pretty sad response from Murray McCully have attached it below..
“Thank you for your email expressing concern about the future of NZAID.
Prior to the 2008 election, National’s policy statement drew attention to serious concerns about the management of NZAID, and promised that we would ‘review the operation of agencies that deliver aid to ensure that aid expenditure is effective and efficiently delivered’. That is the process that we are now engaged in.
Reviews of the structure and mandate of NZAID are currently being undertaken by both the chief executive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the State Services Commissioner, in response to those pre-election commitments.
That work should be completed prior to the 2009 Budget.
I appreciate the time you have taken in writing to me to express your views, and I can assure you that the points raised by you and the NGO community at large will be given careful consideration before any final decisions are made.
Yours sincerely,
Hon Murray McCully
Minister of Foreign Affairs”
That’s a reasonable response. As I’ve affirmed in a few places, I am supportive of reviews that lead to better efficiency and effective use of the money NZ Aid uses. My concern, as with others, is any proposal to role it back into MFAT. We’ll see where it goes
i fear have already been made.
opps i fear decisions have already been made
It seems that what you got is the standard response going out to everyone who has emailed about this situation.
