Change in Venezuela… or not…
Current exit polls in Venezuela for Hugo Chavez’ referendum on whether to scrap term limits for elected officials are coming out in favour of doing away with the limits. This would mean that officials, including Chavez, could pursue re-election indefinitely.
Currently the President may only serve two terms (much like the U.S) and Chavez’ term would end in 2013. This is the second time Chavez’ has sought to discontinue that cap and so far it is looking like he could well be successful this time. Chavez has described the move as a significant part of his efforts to reshape Venezuela into a socialist state.
Do you think it would be a positive or negative thing for Venezuela?
