Many at the bottom of the heap who might be cheating the system are in situations where they don't have much choice. Benefits do not meet costs of living so we are going back to the days of old when the poor were lablelled as criminal for stealing a loaf of Bread to feed their starving family.

As for single parents its long past time that all mothers are paid for the job of raising fmilies.
Should women be forced to put up with Husbands who cheat on them or beat them.
Yes thats why we have the Domestic purposes benefit.
Another reason is because the state demands 24 hour care for children under the age of 14 years.

So we demand solo parents work and at the same time they are not allowed to leave their children unattended.
The real crime is that mothers are now forced by economic pressure to work 24/7. The low wage economy was designed by the National Party in their last term of office then continued in a milder form by the ousted Labour Party.

Cheap trade with china and other countries with no Labour protection is one of the major causes of our low wage economy therefore the reason so many mothers are working all hours God send to help keep their families afloat.

Excellent article. I hope we see the end of the "rock star" CEO phenomenon. Something about this whole crisis reminds me of the Tower of Babel, where a wealthy and proud city presumed to displace God. How very proud we were, and how very far we have to fall.

I have been following "<a href="http://distributism.blogspot.com/2008/11/dont-bail-it.html" rel="nofollow">The Distributist Review</a>" for over a year now, and think that the distributist solution of industrial co-operatives and "moral" markets are a good antidote to our wild western ways.
